Is Testosterone Therapy Safe?

Testosterone therapy is safe when properly prescribed by a qualified physician and monitored appropriately.

Unfortunately many people abuse testosterone for body building and performance enhancement. When testosterone is used illegally without medical doctor supervision, purchased off the black market from an unknown source, and/or is taken in extreme excess, dangerous side effects can occur.

Action Men’s Health’s medical doctor-supervised testosterone therapy is used to treat low testosterone (hypogonadism) in the most effective and safest way possible.

Testosterone naturally begins to steadily decline as we age, normally by the time we reach our 30’s. Tumors, testicle injuries, infections, and being overweight can cause hypogonadism. Not treating hypogonadism has been known to have more health risks than taking testosterone therapy.

Recent studies show a common risk factor of low testosterone is diabetes. There is a relationship between impaired glucose tolerance and Low T. There is a rise in a condition called metabolic syndrome (pre-diabetic state) which can start among men with Low T. Low T can cause abnormal lipid profiles, insulin sensitivity and an increase in central body fat.

Testosterone abuse can cause a man to become sterile or cause his testicles to shrink and become soft. Our doctor-supervised therapies include commonly used medications to counteract this.

Patients using testosterone should seek medical attention immediately if symptoms of a heart attack or stroke are present such as:

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • Weakness in one part or one side of the body
  • Slurred speech

Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.
